Bruins Shut Out Storm, Advance to FAA Finals

The varsity baseball team had a thrilling semi-final victory over a talented St. Luke’s team on Tuesday afternoon on Edwards Campus, as the Bruins emerged victorious by a score of 2-0.

Teddy Bancroft got the start on the mound for the Bruins and was absolutely phenomenal – pitching six scoreless innings. His fastball was dominant and he mixed in his changeup and curveball, keeping the St. Luke's hitters off balance all afternoon. Jerry Guzman came in for the seventh and retired the Storm in order to earn the save.

The game proved to be a pitching and defensive battle, but two-out hitting was the key to Brunswick’s win. In the second inning, the Bruins had two quick outs – butJackson Shepelsky earned himself a two-out walk. Carlo Tucci then walked as well, moving Shepelsky to second and into scoring position. Jayden Montanez was next and delivered a single to left field to bring in Shepelsky and make the score 1-0.

In the sixth inning, Wim Nook led the inning off with single to right. Nook stole second to get himself in scoring position. Two quick outs immediately proceeded before Alex Giannuzzi stepped up to the plate and came up clutch, as he singled to right and gave Brunswick the insurance run they needed.

It was a hard-fought victory for the Bruins as excellent pitching, incredible defense, and two-out hitting were the factors that ultimately led to the win.

Brunswick looks to carry this momentum into Thursday’s championship game against Hamden Hall. Jackson Shepelsky will be on the mound.
