Brunswick hosted Deerfield on Cos Cob Harbor in a match-up of the defending NEIRA (New England Interscholastic Rowing Assoc.) champions in the boys eights and fours, respectively. Deerfield, the defending USRowing Youth National Champions, has won eight straight NEIRA titles in the coxed four. This year, Deerfield switched from the fours to the eights.
The Brunswick 1st Eight was able to get out to an early lead and never relinquished it. The crew of Lucas Tan '24 (coxswain), Henry Andren '24 (stroke), Jimmy Cabot '23, Reed Eddy '25, Campbell Officer '23, Ruffin Bryant '23, Scott Raissis '23, Sam Subramaniam '23, and Justin Guo '26 (bow) covered the 1275m course in a time of 3:48.8 with a bit of open-water back to Deerfield in 3:54.2.
In the 2nd Eights race, Brunswick and Deerfield were essentially level with 200m to go when Brunswick caught a boat-stopping, over-the-head "crab." Deerfield handled the choppy waters better and won the race in a time of 4:00.5 with Brunswick finishing over a length back in 4:04.9.
Brunswick's 3rd Eight earned a quality win in tough conditions as they covered the course in 4:03.6 with Deerfield less than a length back in a time of 4:06.2. Deerfield won the 4th Eights race by several boat lengths.
