Bruins Fall Short Against Loomis

Brunswick lost a hard fought battle against Loomis, 60-56, in Dann Gym on Wednesday.

The two teams went back and forth for most of the first half, trading baskets, neither able to build a lead. After being tied at 20 apiece, the sharp shooting Pelicans, who hit six three pointers in the opening 16 minutes, mounted a 13-4 run to take a 33-24 lead into the break.

Brunswick would go on a run if its own to start the second half, smothering Loomis with defensive pressure, and took the lead, 41-40, with 10 minutes to play after an Ethan Long three-point play on a fast-break dunk.

It was anyone's game down the stretch and just when it looked like Loomis might pull away, Brunswick again regained the lead, 56-55, with just over a minute to play after two clutch Wyatt Triestman three pointers. The Pelicans would then score on a layup off of an inbounds play, gaining a one-point advantage. With the Bruins unable to capitalize on their next offensive possession, they were now at the mercy of the game clock and forced to send the Pelicans to the free throw line, where they scored the game's final four points.

Triestman led Brunswick in scoring with 20. Long had 19 and Jon Sigurdsson added 15.

Brunswick will play at King on Friday.
