Brunswick's varsity wrestling team (15-3) closed out its regular season with a 58-14 win at home versus Collegiate on Wednesday.
Despite missing several varsity starters, Brunswick was able to win 11 out of the 14 matches in the dual meet. Collegiate was also down a few wrestlers and therefore forfeited four weight classes.
Christian Yanoti (17-8), who has recently stepped into the varsity lineup at 106 lb., pinned his opponent in the second period. At 113 lb., Matias DeBono (12-6) earned a 14-1 major decision, while seventh grader Jackson Shaw was called up today and fell to a seasoned opponent at 120 lb.
At 126 lb., Patrick O'Donahue (17-6) came out firing against a quick opponent from Collegiate. O'Donahue built a big lead and then was able to get the pin. After a loss at 132 lb., Enzo Vera (25-4) came right back with an 8-2 win by decision.
Alec Harned (18-3) got another pin at 144 lb., followed by Travis Wilson taking a forfeit at 150 lb.
Jack Degl (25-5) bumped up to 157 lb. to take on the captain from Collegiate, but the sophomore lost by major decision to his veteran opponent. Whip Gorman (12-4) followed with an 8-2 win.
Emil Sogaard-Srikrishnan (14-5), Jake Greene (4-3), and Tomas Delgado (18-5) each took forfeits before Michael Marini (21-9) made quick work of his opponent with a pin in 21 seconds at heavyweight.
Brunswick will travel to Taft on Saturday, February 11, for the WNEISWA (Western New England Interscholastic Wrestling Association) Championships.
