Brunswick won back the Kulaga Cup, awarded to the team with the most victories in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Varsity boat races in the annual Brunswick vs. Fairfield Prep race, on Saturday at Cedar Creek in Black Rock, Conn.
After losing the 3rd Varsity Eights race by six seconds, the Bruins needed its top two boats to come through with wins to secure the Kulaga Cup in Coach Joe Falco's last race.
The pressure was on.
Coach Dylan Gould's 2nd Varsity Eight got out to an early lead and never looked back, racing with great confidence and finding a good rhythm en route to winning by two lengths.
And so it came down to the 1st Varsity Eights race between two strong crews who had shown good speed and earned quality wins over the course of the season. Brunswick was able to stay composed and slowly but surely move away from Fairfield Prep and win by almost two lengths to secure the Kulaga Cup (named in memory of Joey Kulaga, Fairfield Prep '19).
It was a special final weekend for Coach Falco and his team.
