Six Earn All-New England Honors in Squash

Following the program’s ninth-straight NEPSAC Class A team title, six members of the squash team were named All-NEPSAC by the league coaches. In the third year of the post-season award, Brunswick leads the NEPSAC with 16 players earning all-league honors.

Seniors Nick Spizzirri, Dana Santry and Brian Leonard are repeat first-team selections, while senior Pierce Henderson is a second team honoree. Junior Mac Aube and sophomore Patrick Keller earned honorable mention nods, as Aube is now a two-time honorable mention pick.

Collectively, the sextet owns a stunning 58-0 record in individual matches this season, as the Brunswick team swept through the NEPSAC Tournament with unprecedented 7-0 victories in all three rounds. The league title was the 18th for longtime head coach Jim Stephens, who is retiring after 35 years of leading the program.

Additionally, the Bruins posted 7-0 shutout wins in all four matches in the U.S. High School Team National Championships back in February. It was the first time in the 16-year history of the national tournament that a team did not lose a single match. For the year, Brunswick went 11-0 against high school competition.

In the inaugural year of All-NEPSAC selections in 2018, Spizzirri, Santry and Leonard all earned honorable mention accolades.

Before moving to a team format for NEPSAC title this season, the league used a 16-player individual tournament for seven different seeds, allowing for team scoring and individual champions.

The senior quad-captains: Henderson, Leonard, Santry and Spizzirri, are 160-6 playing for Coach Stephens, leading the way to three national titles in four years, four NEPSAC team titles and four Brandes Cups (best record in New England).

Over the past four years, Brunswick holds a 46-1 record, with the lone setback in the finals of the national championship in 2017.

Leonard, who never lost an individual match in four years playing for Brunswick (49-0), is a three-time NEPSAC individual champion (2017, 2018, 2019).

Spizzirri, playing as the Bruins’ top seed for the last two seasons, owns a 44-3 career mark and twice won the individual NEPSAC title (2017, 2018).

Henderson (32-1) is a two-time NEPSAC individual champion (2018, 2019), while Santry (35-2) won an individual NEPSAC title in 2018.
