Second-seeded Brunswick ‘A’ took second place at the 2020 U.S. Middle School Team Squash Championships, as the Bruins fell to Haverford in the Division I title round at Yale University on Sunday, 3-2. Since the inception of the tournament in 2008, Brunswick reached the championship match 10 times, winning six national titles.
The ‘A’ squad, consisting of Oliver Velasco, Johan Hodgson, Will Newman, Henry Raine, Cole Cline and Will Newton, swept through the round of 16 and quarterfinals with matching 5-0 results. In the semifinals against Episcopal on Saturday evening, the Bruins posted a 4-1 victory to reach the Sunday championship.
Brunswick also entered a ‘B’ team that competed in the Division II draw. Following an opening-round setback, the team won its final four matches, including the consolation finals to finish with 4-1 record. The team of Bennett Klein, Jesse Chung, Andrew Keller, Ben Wu, Patrick Duncan, Eric Lorenz, Theo Perkins and Subir Garg finished the tournament with a national ranking of 25.
