In 12 seasons of Division I play, Brunswick’s hockey program has solidified itself as one of the most competitive high school programs in New England, securing tournament berths in 2010–2011, 2011–2012, 2014–15, when the team won a school-record 26 games; 2015-16, when the Bruins earned their first-ever berth in the Elite 8 Tournament, featuring the top eight teams in New England; and 2016-17, when Brunswick won its first-ever playoff game at the Division I level and advanced to the semifinals of the Large School Tournament.
In 2017-18, the Bruins won three straight playoff games to capture the NEPSAC Large School Tournament championship, the school's first title at the Division I level.
After missing the playoffs in 2018-2019, Brunswick returned to the Large School Tournament semifinals in 2019-2020, a year that saw the Bruins win 21 games.
No official NEPSAC games or playoffs were held in 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, although the Bruins played 19 exhibition contests.
At the collegiate level, in the past 15 years, ’Wick hockey alumni have laced up the skates for Harvard, Boston University, Western Michigan, Notre Dame, Michigan, Dartmouth, Yale, North Dakota, Holy Cross, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Colby, Middlebury, Trinity, Williams, Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Amherst, and Hobart.
In the past 18 years, five hockey alumni have been selected in the NHL Draft. Hugh Jessiman ’02 was selected in the 1st Round in 2003 and recently retired from playing professional hockey. Kevin Shattenkirk ’07, who spent his freshman and sophomore years at Brunswick before playing for the United States National Team Development Program, was selected in the 1st Round in 2007. The Stanley Cup winner is now a member of the Anaheim Ducks. John Hayden ’13, who followed Shattenkirk’s track, was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 3rd Round of the 2013 draft. He captained Yale University during his senior year in 2017 and is currently playing for the Arizona Coyotes in the NHL. Phil Kemp '17, who also played for the USNTDP and captained Yale, was drafted in the 7th round of the 2017 draft by the Edmonton Oilers. Cooper Moore '19 was chosen in the 5th round of the 2019 draft by the Detroit Red Wings and is now playing collegiately at the University of North Dakota.
Greg Squires '07 has played professionally for more than a decade after playing at Western Michigan University and will lace up the skates in the KHL this year for the Kunlun Red Star. And Luke Esposito '12, a Brunswick captain and four-year letterman at Harvard, is now a member of the Bakersfield Condors (AHL).
All Brunswick hockey home games are held at Hartong Rink on Edwards Campus on King Street.
After a season full of interruptions, postponements, and cancelations brought upon by the global pandemic, the Brunswick hockey team is set to return to a normal and competitive slate of NEPSAC games in 2021-2022.
