New Campus Update: A Historic Day for Brunswick

In a letter to the Brunswick community, Headmaster Thomas W. Philip made a special announcement on the eve of a historic day for the School.

Dear Alumni and Parents,

Tomorrow, May 1, promises to be a special day in Brunswick's history, as we are scheduled to take full possession of the new campus on the former Tudor Corporation property on King Street.

Many months of meetings and planning have led up to this point, and construction is scheduled to commence immediately to transform the main office building on the new campus into a state-of-the-art academic facility. Elsewhere on the new campus, faculty will be moving into new faculty housing units on the northern end of the property during the course of the summer.

Under the direction of Andy Fox of Stone Harbor Project Advisors, architect Tim Peck (from Shoreline Design Group), and Tom Walsh (Executive Vice President of A.P. Construction Company), we will be hard at work from this point forward until mid-August, when we plan to reopen the building as our new Middle School.

Concurrent with this effort, the summer months will also see the transformation of our current Middle School building into a new Pre School facility and, in turn, the transition of our current Pre School building on Maple Avenue into as many as 10 new Upper School classrooms. The Lower School, too, will benefit from these efforts, as first- through fourth-grade boys will gain regular access next year to a shared Performing Arts facility in the current Caputo Building.

Taken all together, it is not an exaggeration to say that literally each and every division of the school will have access to new and improved academic facilities when school reopens in the fall.

So, there are some busy but fruitful days ahead! During this period, we ask that all members of our community stay clear of the new campus, as it will be an active and restricted construction site for the next four months.

We are, however, planning/hoping to be able to open the new Middle School in the final days of August, so that any and all interested parents and students can get a preview of the new facility before school starts in September.

As always, I thank all the many members of our community for their ongoing interest and support of these various and important projects.

Tom
