Cross Country Picks Up Fourth-Straight FAA Regular Season Title

On their home course, the Bruins topped Greens Farms (15-50), Masters (18-45), and, thanks to an exciting sprint finish, held on to defeat Hopkins (26-29) to sweep the slate of FAA regular season races. The regular season FAA title is the fourth-straight for Brunswick (18-0), as the Bruins’ conference win streak moves to 78 victories in a row.

The Brunswick seniors have gone 72-0 during the last four FAA campaigns.

 

Nic Burston was the overall race-winner, as the Hopkins product crossed the tape in a blistering time of 16:17, nearly a minute faster than the rest of the field.

 

The battle for initial team points between Hopkins and Brunswick began with the final dash for second place, as four runners finished within two seconds of each other. Brunswick’s Wes Peisch (17:15) held on for second place, while teammate Andres Jasson outkicked a Hopkins runner in the final 100 yards to earn a third-place finish. The Hopkins runner held on for fourth place, while Sabian Grier from Masters took fifth.

 

Brunswick’s top five finishers -- Peisch (2^nd), Jasson (3^rd), Kyle Raker (6^th, 17:59), Jack Driscoll (8^th), and Chris Ramos (12^th, 18:44) -- procured 26 points, while Hopkins’ top five picked up 29 points.

 

The battle for eighth place also was razor-thin, as Driscoll’s eighth-place mark of 18:24 was just one second ahead of a Hopkins runner.

 

Interestingly, in two scenarios, if Hopkins bested Brunswick for either third or eighth-place, the Hilltoppers would have won the team race and ended the Bruins’ winning streak.

The Bruins will take part in the Collegiate School Invitational in the Bronx on Friday, October 20, followed by the FAA Championship on October 30 and the New England Championship on November 11.
