After the long trip to Pennsylvania where Brunswick took silver in the Beast of the East Tournament last weekend, the Bruins drove the short distance to face local foe Greenwich High School on Tuesday. The brief trip was successful for Brunswick, as the Bruins topped their crosstown rivals, 7-5.
Brunswick took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter following tallies by Thacher Scannell, Keegan Drew, and Kyle Yelensky. The rival squads exchanged goals to close out the frame, as the visitors held on to a 4-1 lead.
After a Yelensky goal opened the second quarter for the Bruins, the Cardinals netted a pair of goals before the half to set the score at 5-3 heading into the break.
Each team added single tallies in the third quarter, including a rebound goal by Drew.
Holding a 6-4 lead in the fourth quarter, Brunswick earned some breathing room with a goal by Scannell to open the frame. The Cardinals countered with a tally to make it a two-goal contest, but could not close the gap as the Bruins swam away with the 7-5 win.
The Bruins (9-1) return to NEPSAC action on Wednesday, October 11, hosting Loomis Chaffee at 4:00 p.m.
