Lower Schoolers Spend 'Dynamite' Day in Outdoor Classroom
On the first day of fall, Lower School boys ventured beyond normal class activity and into the Outdoor Classroom for an overview of everything the natural resource on Edwards Campus has to offer.
Boys were advised on how to keep safe — how to recognize poison ivy and how to keep an eye out for ticks — as they hiked through the space and paused to brainstorm ways to use it for educational purposes.
“Writing poetry or in a journal,” one boy said.
“Scientific experiments,” another said.
“To watch how nature changes over time and throughout the seasons,” another said.
Lower School Head Katie Signer called it a “dynamite” day.
“It was a great kickoff to the year ahead in such a valuable learning space — especially being on such a beautiful first day of fall,” she said.
“The boys used their eyes and ears to soak up everything about their surroundings — and proposed so many innovative ideas for how to take full advantage of their future time in the Outdoor Classroom.”
