In an 8-8 game in the fourth quarter, 12th-ranked Brunswick netted four straight goals to polish off league rival Salisbury on Friday night, 12-9. The win on Cosby Field also leaves the Bruins (13-1, 9-0) as the last undefeated team in New England West 1 (NEW1) action.
Brunswick returns to action at Cosby Field on Saturday, May 13, with a game against Trinity-Pawling at 2:30.
Following a 2-1 first quarter, both teams netted a trio of tallies in the second stanza, and the Bruins held a 5-4 lead at the break.
Salisbury, ranked 22nd in the latest Inside Lacrosse-Under Armour national poll, opened the third quarter with a three-goal rally, adding a pair of man-up goals and building a 7-5 lead at 9:21.
Brunswick countered with a three-goal response, highlighted by a pair of Jimmy Heidt goals set up by Xander Dickson. The scoring run gave the Bruins an 8-7 lead, with Salisbury netting the game-tying goal in the final minute of the third quarter.
In the 8-8 game, Brunswick started the decisive four-goal fourth quarter run at 9:41, as Heidt netted the go-ahead goal. Three other Bruins scored solo markers during a 42 second stretch, started by a Christian Ronda tally at 2:54 off an Alex Buckanavage feed. A goal by Dickson 31 seconds later followed by a score by Jack Ocken at 2:12 capped the four-goal burst and gave the Bruins a 12-8 advantage.
A last-minute man-up goal by Salisbury capped the scoring at 12-9.
Xander Dickson led the Bruins with seven points, netting three goals and adding four helpers.
