Baseball Defeats Rye CDS in Five Innings

Visiting Brunswick needed just five innings to dispatch FAA rival Rye CDS by an 11-0 margin on Friday. The Bruins scored at least one run in four of the innings, as Brunswick pitcher Trystan Sarcone pitched five scoreless innings, picking up his first win of the season.

On offense, Brunswick collected eight hits, including one double by James Sassi, and drew a dozen walks against a trio of Wildcat pitchers.

After scoring a run in the opening frame, the Bruins (3-0, 2-0 FAA) added three runs in both the second and third innings to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Brunswick added four final runs in the top of the fifth inning for the convincing 11-0 road victory.

With a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Aaron Sabato drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs, giving the Bruins a 2-0 advantage. Ryan Hanrahan followed with a two-run single, giving Brunswick a 4-0 lead.

The Bruins added a trio of runs in the third inning, as J.D. Sparks and Sarcone each had an RBI in the frame.

In the fifth inning, the Bruins iced the game plating four runs, with just one hit, a single by Santiago Riera.

Sparks, who drew a leadoff walk, and Riera would both come around to score on a hit-by-pitch and a base-on-balls, respectively, giving the visitors a 9-0 advantage.

Later in the frame, both Sabato and Hanrahan reached on consecutive walks. Each Bruin would later score, as Sabato was pushed across the plate on another walk, while Hanrahan scored on a fielder’s choice put-out, giving the Bruins an 11-0 lead.

Offensively, Riera led the Bruins with three singles, while scoring four runs. Sarcone chipped in a pair of singles and an RBI, while Hanrahan added a hit and two RBI.

Sarcone (1-0) picked up the win for Brunswick, tossing five innings and striking out five Wildcats. On the day, the lefty allowed three walks and a pair of hits, keeping his ERA at an impressive 0.00.

Over three games, the Brunswick pitching staff have not allowed a run over 21 innings.

Brunswick returns to action on Saturday, April 8, with a non-league road game at Fieldston.
