Brunswick kicked off the 2017 crew campaign with a strong showing at the Caspersen Rowing Center on Mercer Lake in New Jersey, competing against host Lawrenceville and the Mountain Lakes Rowing Club on Sunday. The Bruins had three boats win races against excellent competition on a 1,500 meter course at one of the U.S. National Training Centers.
In the Varsity Eight, Brunswick finished in third place, as race-winner Lawrenceville took the top honors by 2.1 seconds over the Bruins, while the Bruins’ entry in the Fourth Varsity race earned a runner-up finish to Lawrenceville.
The Bruins won the Second Varsity race wire-to-wire, while the Third Varsity boat won a race in come-from-behind fashion.
The third victory on the day was in the Fifth Varsity category, as the Bruins’ Freshman Boat won by 6.5 seconds.
Brunswick returns to the water on Saturday, April 8, in Massachusetts, racing a number of schools on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
