Wrestlers Take Fourth in New England Tourney

Competing against 45 other New England prep teams at the Hyde School in Maine, Brunswick earned a fourth-place finish at the 70th NEISWA Championships. Wrapping up the two-day tourney, nine of 13 Bruins earned podium finishes, giving Brunswick 131 team points, 9.5 points ahead of fourth-place Trinity-Pawling. Five Bruins also qualified to wrestle at the Prep Nationals, held at Lehigh University on February 25-26.

Last year’s runner-up, Exeter, won the overall team title this year, collecting 227 team points.

The fourth-place finish by the Bruins was the third-best finish all-time for the Bruins. Last season’s team took third place.

Lachlan Rosato, entering as the third-seed (220 lb.), earned the top finish for the Bruins with a third-place result. Rosato finished fourth in the 2016 event.

Second-seed Brooks Hennessy (132 lb.) along with his fifth-seed brother Andrew (126 lb.) earned fourth-place finishes, and are three-time New England podium finishers. The brothers both improved on fifth-place finishes from a year ago, while earning fourth-place results in 2015.

Ninth-seed Alex Tucker (160 lb.) and third-seed Aiden Reynolds (182 lb.) both finished fifth in their weight classes.

Unseeded John DeLucia earned a seventh-place result at 152, while sixth-seed Tim Saunders (170 lb.) also finished seventh.

A pair of unseeded wrestlers, Rishi Das (113 lb.) and Antonio Rogliano (285 lb.) finished in eighth place.

The nine podium finishers for Brunswick tied for the most top-eight results for the tournament, matching Exeter and runner-up Belmont Hill.

Harry Fett (138 lb.) and Emmett Bell (145 lb.) both collected wins for the Bruins, while Dylan Reynolds (120 lb.) and Jack Ocken (195 lb.) bowed out in the early rounds of the tournament.

The five Bruins heading to the Prep Nationals at Lehigh University include a trio of 2016 Prep National performers: Brooks and Andrew Hennessy along with Rosato. Tucker and Aiden Reynolds round out the five Bruins that finished in the top-six at New Englands, earning bids to the national tournament.
