Hockey Wins in Overtime, Home Streak Continues

Christian LeSueur’s goal 27 seconds into overtime gave Brunswick a 4-3 sudden victory over the visiting Berkshire Bears on Saturday at Hartong Rink. The OT win boosts the Brunswick overall record to 14-7-4, as the Bruins are undefeated (8-0-2) on their home ice this season.

Nearly as quick as the game ended, the Bruins opened the scoring in the first period, as Jack Forrest scored a goal 45 seconds after the opening drop of the puck.

Berkshire later knotted the game at one at 9:36 in the first period.

Following a scoreless second period, Brunswick’s Ryan Carmichael scored a power-play goal in the opening minute of the third. The power-play opportunity was a carry-over from a Berkshire penalty in the waning seconds of the second period.

Later in the third period, LeSueur netted his first of two goals of the game, a goal at the 10:38 mark, giving the Bruins a 3-1 lead. On the goal, Charles Shaffer redirected a pass from Carmichael across the crease to LeSueur for the his 16th goal of the year.

With just over five minutes to play, Berkshire pulled its goalie for an extra skater for a face-off in the Brunswick defensive zone. The gamble worked, as the Bears won the face-off and quickly deposited the puck for a goal with 5:09 left in regulation.

Trailing 3-2, the Bears netted the game-tying goal with 2:35 left on the clock, as the teams headed to overtime tied at three.

In overtime, LeSueur collected a loose puck near the Berkshire blue line and ended the game with a wrister from the left circle 27 seconds into the extra frame.
