On the strength of tremendous team depth — and the individual championships of John Fitzgerald ’15, Tyler Carney ’17, and Drew Monroe ’16 — Brunswick won the New England Interscholastic Squash Association Class A championship last weekend at Groton School.
The Bruins edged Belmont Hill School, the same team they defeated in the U.S. High School Team Championships earlier this month, by a score of 109–107 to secure their 13th New England crown and fourth in a row.
Brunswick also became the first school to win both titles in the same year.
"It was a dream season and our team did it the right way -- with humility and great sportsmanship," Brunswick Head Coach Jim Stephens said.
In addition to the individual titles won in the Nos. 5–7 brackets, Brunswick earned critical points at the top of the ladder.
David Yacobucci ’16 finished fourth in the No. 1 bracket; Senen Ubina ’15 placed fourth in the No. 2 division; Jarett Odrich '15 took third at No. 3; and Yousef Hindy ’15 was runner-up at No. 4.
"This has to be the greatest team that we've had, especially considering the level of play we have faced,” Stephens said.
