In matches held at Hopkins School on Saturday, Brunswick won the 58th Annual WNEISWA Championships, holding off 20 teams to capture the title for the second year in a row.
Additionally, Brunswick won the Team Sportsmanship Award as voted by the league coaches.
Four Bruins were crowned WNEISWA Individual Champions:
106 lb. - Brooks Hennessy
138 lb. - Jon Errico
195 lb. - Matt Marvin
285 lb. - Joe Fervil
Brooks Hennessy avenged his only previous loss on the season in his finals match versus a previously undefeated wrestler ranked #2 in NEISWA.
170 lb.-Lucas Bell took an impressive 2nd place, losing in the finals to a former NEISWA champion, Trent Bellows of Suffield Academy.
Four Bruin wrestlers battled through the consolation bracket to take 3rd place and earned huge team points:
132 lb. - Sandro Mariani
145 lb. - Kyle Davis
182 lb. - Alex Russell
220 lb. - Lachlan Rosato
Mariani was seeded 6th going into the tournament and had his best day of the year (similarly, Rosato was seeded 5th).
Additionally, two Bruins wrestlers took 4th place:
113 lb. - Andrew Hennessy
152 lb. - Jack Jones
Jones, the Brunswick captain who had won 12 straight New England (NEISWA) matches coming into the tournament, continued his strong run of wrestling with key pins and a 4th place finish, losing close decisions to the same wrestler in the championship and consolation brackets.
The tournament win was Head Coach Tim Ostrye's 11th WNEISWA team championship (with the first coming 1985).
