It was a Homecoming for the record books!
On the heels of triumphant festivities last year, Homecoming 2014 featured a record turnout — this year under the warmest and brightest September sunshine — as ’Wick Bruins again swept the weekend with decisive wins.
Alumni kicked off the festivities on Friday with the Annual Golf Outing at the Griffith E. Harris Golf Course.
By Friday evening, almost a hundred gathered at the Upper School Atrium for the 5th Annual Alumni Association Party. Jon Rykman ’88 was stunned as Headmaster Thomas W. Philip awarded him the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award for his tireless work on behalf of his alma mater.
In sports, Bruins dominated play on Saturday, winning decisive victories in football, water polo, and soccer.
Playing their first Homecoming games ever in their home pool, Water Polo swam past Loomis Chaffee, 17-3, and Suffield Academy, 17-8. Soccer beat The Gunnery, 2-1, while football outdid The Taft School on Cosby Field, 53-14.
In reunion year for both the “4s” and the “9s,” after the games, alumni fanned out to gatherings across Greenwich and Port Chester to reminisce and reconnect.
Overall, Homecoming 2014 drew the largest gathering of alumni, ever, in the history of the School, but the weekend provided fun for all.
A pep rally and roaring bonfire set the stage for a Middle School dance on Friday evening, while the annual Bear Fair at Burke Field House on Saturday drew hundreds from the younger set for games and activities.
What a weekend, indeed!
