Two Seniors Sign National Letters of Intent

Two Brunswick football players — seniors William Janis and Miles Walker — inked their National Letters of Intent to College of the Holy Cross and the Ohio State University, respectively, on Wednesday morning, the first day of the early signing period for football.

Janis and Walker signed in front of their coaches and parents in the Altman Room at Brunswick’s Upper School.

“These young men have worked tirelessly to improve on and off the football field. This accomplishment is one that has been years in the making,” said football coach Wayne McGillicuddy.

Walker, a tackle, paved the way for a strong ’Wick running game, as the team rushed for 1,836 yards and 25 touchdowns, also protecting the quarterback in the passing game, giving up only eight sacks on almost 200 dropbacks. Walker also garnered post-season accolades, earning NEPSAC Lineman of the year, first-team All-New England, and a spot on the Northeast Prep Football Conference’s first-team offense after the season concluded.

“Miles has worked hard year after year to improve and become the best version of himself on the field, in the classroom, and in the community,” McGillicuddy said. “He took the loss in the 2021 Mike Silipo Bowl personally and used it as motivation for an entire year. His work ethic is unparalleled. He is a role model for how a student-athlete should approach all that he does with a tremendous work ethic.”

Janis, a center, has been the lynchpin of the Bruins’ offensive line for two years. He earned a spot on the Northeast Prep Football Conference’s first team, in addition to earning second-team All-NEPSAC honors. Janis was also a part of that strong offensive line that paved the way for ’Wick’s explosive running game.

“Will’s influence and impact on our team is irreplaceable. He was an offensive lineman who would set out protection and make sure the entire offensive line was all on the same page. He carries himself like a true professional already, and has been a tremendous leader of his peers,” McGillicuddy said.
