Brunswick emerged victorious, 51-41, in its season opener on Saturday afternoon at home against Taft.
The Bruins started fast, building a quick 6-0 lead on three early buckets, including a Jon Sigurdsson alley-oop dunk off a Wyatt Triestman inbound pass. But the Rhinos would quickly build a lead of their own, going up 19-13 after capitalizing on a few turnovers and missed opportunities by the Bruins offense.
Brunswick would eventually regain its poise with the help of three Will Graves three pointers and took a 26-23 lead into the break.
The Bruins did not trail for the rest of the game, but saw a comfortable 10-point lead dwindle to three as the score sat at 43-40 with 1:45 to play in the contest.
Sophomore guard Ethan Long, who had a game high 22 points and was a menace on the defensive end all afternoon, led Brunswick across the finish line by scoring the final 10 points of the game.
Graves added 16 points, Sigurdsson had seven, and Triestman scored six.
Brunswick returns to Dann Gym on Tuesday against King for its first FAA matchup of the year.
