Bruins Place Second in FAA Championship

In a rescheduled, shortened nine-hole FAA Championship tournament Monday, the varsity golf team continued its season-long sub-200 streak in placing second overall in the eight-team field to Hamden Hall by six strokes, 198-192, at Maple Moor Golf Club in White Plains, N.Y., concluding its spring '22 campaign with a 26-2 record.

The rare off-peak performance signaled their highest stroke total of the spring, as the Bruins were unable to answer the one-two punch of the highly-touted Hornets' Ben James, who fired a tournament medalist low score of two-under par 34, backed up by freshman North Chery's 35.

The Bruins, who had beaten Hamden Hall in the teams' previous five meetings, were paced by three 39s recorded by junior co-captain Henry Devaney and classmate Andrew Stickel, along with sophomore Will Harned, who capped his standout rookie season playing in the #2 slot behind Devaney.

The triumvirate, who earned All-FAA Honorable Mention for their play, were followed in the 'Wick lineup by juniors Matteo Santulin (40), Fritz Smith (41), and Harry Bonomo (42), all of whom were playing the tight, unfamiliar Maple Moor layout for the first time.

As the Bruins bid farewell to the '22 season, they say goodbye to four-year player and two-year co-captain Owen Hayes and three-year veteran Nick Rinaldi and look forward to a veteran-laden (seven seniors) '23 squad with high hopes and lofty expectations.
