Candy Drive A Sweet Success

Upper Schoolers donated hundreds of bags of candy in October to help ensure children at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich a happy Halloween even with the pandemic.

The first-ever Halloween candy drive was organized by Amy Kerekes, director of Upper School community service, and saw about 400 students from the Upper School contribute at least one bag of candy each.

Kerekes delivered the candy to the Boys & Girls Club on Oct. 23; older children there then sorted it into individual bags in preparation for the big day.

On Halloween, children were invited to the parking lot at the Boys and Girls Club to collect a 'COVID-safe' bag of candy.

Kerekes said she organized the drive because the pandemic made Halloween even more uncertain for area children.

"Even without the pandemic, there are plenty of kids out there who might not get to go trick or treating anywhere," Kerekes said, adding: "It was a lot of candy!"
