Brunswick, ranked ninth in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national poll, picked up a season-opening road win against Episcopal Academy on Thursday, besting the Churchmen, 16-10.
Holding a 3-2 lead in the second quarter, Brunswick went on a three-goal burst, taking a 6-2 advantage with 4:50 left in the frame. Following an exchange of goals, Episcopal made it a 7-4 game following a face-off win. The Bruins closed out the second quarter with a point-blank tally, as the visitors took an 8-4 lead into the half.
Brunswick used another three-goal spurt to open the third quarter, as Coulter Mackesy capped the burst with a doorstep marker at 7:56. The teams again exchanged goals, as the Bruins went into the fourth quarter with a 12-5 advantage.
Following an opening goal by the Churchmen in the final frame, Koby Ginder made it a 13-6 contest with 10:24 left to play.
Trailing 15-7 in the waning minutes of the contest, Episcopal strung three goals together, including a pair of man-up markers to set the score at 15-10 with 1:52 remaining. Brunswick’s Isaac Sacks netted the final tally of the game, as the Bruins left the Keystone State with a 16-10 win.
For the game, Ginder won 20/16 faceoffs, as Andrew Greenspan went 1/2 from the X. Goalie Henry Foster made 11 saves in a debut starting performance protecting the net for the Bruins.
