Basketball Falls on Valentine’s Day

Brunswick lost a heartbreaker to Hamden Hall on Friday in Dann Gym, 59-58. With the setback, the Bruins stand at 7-13 overall and 3-8 in FAA action. Brunswick has a pair of games left in the regular season, capped by a home finale on Thursday, February 20.

 

The Bruins held a nine-point lead at the midway point of the second half, but the Hornets went on a 15-3 run, taking a 53-50 lead with 3:01 in the game.

 

Brunswick fought back, as a three-pointer by Colin Mulshine tied the game at 55-55 with 1:30 left in the contest.

 

The Hornets took a 57-55 lead on a pair of free throws at 1:14, as Tristan Joseph countered with a traditional three-point play for the Bruins. Joseph sank a free throw following a foul on a made lay-up with 32.0 seconds left in the game.

 

Trailing 58-57, Hamden Hall moved the ball up-court and sank the go-ahead basket with 20.8 seconds remaining in regulation.

 

Following a time out, Brunswick worked the ball deep into their offensive zone for the game-winning shot. However, the hosts turned the ball over in the final seconds, as Hamden Hall held on for the 59-58 road win.

 

Henry Caponiti led the Bruins with a season-high 18 points, as Mulshine netted 16 points and Joseph scored 14.
