Basketball Tops Hopkins

Brunswick picked up another FAA win on Saturday, beating Hopkins in Dann Gym, 58-52. It is the second-straight conference win for the Bruins (4-7, 3-2), as the squad bested Rye CDS on Thursday.

Brunswick took an early 6-2 lead on a bucket by Kevonne Wilder at the 12:32 mark of the first half. The Brunswick lead grew to 22-15 on a fast-break lay-up by Khari Wilson off a long pass from Wilder with 2:10 remaining. The Hilltoppers (4-6, 0-4) closed the gap slightly, as the Bruins took a 24-19 lead into the break.

Brunswick matched their largest lead on a floater from Wilson at 15:50 in the second half, giving the hosts a 26-19 advantage. The basket was Wilson’s 12th point of the contest.

Hopkins responded with an 11-3 run to take its first lead of the contest with 12:02 remaining in the game.

Brunswick countered with a 9-0 spurt, highlighted by back-to-back three’s by Dan Arnold, as the Bruins took a 39-30 lead with 8:27 left to play.

The Hilltoppers battled back on a 12-1 burst to make it a 42-40 at 6:11.

That is as close as the visitors would get, as the Bruins maintained a minimum two-score cushion down the stretch for the 58-52 win.

Arnold led the Bruins with a career-high 16 points, all in the second half, as Cedric Lafleur scored 15 and Wilson finished with a dozen.
