Hockey Wins Nichols-Belmont Hill Tournament

Brunswick’s Jakub Teply notched the only goal in the championship game of the 2019 Nichols-Belmont Hill Holiday Tournament, as the Bruins (10-3-1) beat Belmont Hill (6-4-1) for the title on Monday, 1-0. Brunswick, owning a 4-0 record in this year’s tournament, last won the tourney in 2015.

In the championship, Teply scored his team-leading 12th goal for the win in the second period, as Andon Cerbone earned a team-best 15th assist on the tally.

To reach the championship, the Bruins won all three contests in the Green Division, while Belmont Hill went 3-0 in the Blue Division.

In the opening game on Friday, Brunswick needed an overtime goal by Matthew McGroarty to top Millbrook, 6-5. Ahead of the extra session, the Bruins held a 5-1 lead over the Mustangs in the second period, before Millbrook rallied for four goals to force overtime.

On Saturday morning, Brunswick skated away with a victory over Rivers in game two, 4-0. Connor Welsh, Teply, Beanie Richter and Harry Tavlaros all scored goals for the Bruins, as goalie Brendan Holahan made 20 saves in the shut-out win.

In the Saturday night-cap against St. Francis, Brunswick picked up its second overtime victory of the tournament, 3-2. Trailing 2-1 in the final seconds of regulation, Jude Brower scored a 6-on-4 tally with :04 on the clock to force overtime. Teply ended the game 24 seconds into the extra session with a power-play goal.
