Holiday Break Begins with Happy, Tuneful ‘Twelve Days’

It’s an annual and joyful holiday tradition.

Brunswick boys of all ages commenced a well-deserved holiday break with a spirited and cheerful all-school rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

The fun was to be found at a musical all-school assembly on Thursday, Dec. 19.

Boys gathered at Burke Field House for the colorful Brunswick tradition that capped a season of performances from students in every division, from the Upper School Holiday Concert that packed the house at Baker Theater to popular performances by ’Wick’s youngest and the annual Brunswick Latin Carol Service at Christ Church, Greenwich.

And once again, students spent the season in outreach to others.

At the Pre School, a “Mitten Tree” was set up in the lobby, and ’Wick’s youngest spent the month adorning it with warm hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and socks that were donated to local organizations.

Lower School boys participated in an “Operation Santa 2” service project by donating items in support of children of Public School 55 in the Bronx. Each Brunswick class was invited to donate items as part of a collective effort to provide each school child with a drawstring bag filled with necessities, along with a couple of fun holiday gifts.

Extra items collected went to the teachers and were stuffed in bags at the last minute, while extra toys went to the “Roar Store,” the school’s incentive “store” where kids go to choose a prize upon earning a certain number of tickets.

Middle Schoolers again “adopted” the families they supported at Thanksgiving and provided new and gently used men's, women's, and children’s winter coats and blankets for community members at the Don Bosco Community Center in Port Chester, N.Y.

December is also the month for the annual Middle School Nickels for Nate campaign, in memory of teacher Krista Taylor's brother. This was the twelfth year for this drive, and more than $25,000 has been collected for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

At the Upper School, the annual Holiday Drive benefitted children throughout Fairfield County; nearly 800 gifts were donated.

Now, students look forward to a well-deserved break and return to classes next year, when a new decade is just six days away.
