Wrestling Seals Win with a Last-Match Pin

Holding a 33-30 lead heading in the final match of the day against Iona Prep, Brunswick’s 106-pounder, Enzo Vera, clinched the win for the Bruins with a pin-fall victory on Wednesday in Dann Gym, as Brunswick defeated Iona Prep, 39-30.
 
After an opening pin by Brunswick’s Kyle Pagnani at 113, Iona Prep reeled off four straight wins to take a 16-6 lead over the Bruins.
 
Brunswick’s Luca Errico added a quick-pin win (14 seconds), while teammate Will Donovan posted a tech-fall, as the Bruins responded with 11 points, giving the hosts a slim, 17-16 lead over the visitors from New York.
 
Four events later, the contest was tied at 27-27. Each team collected a pin-fall win, as Brunswick added a four-point major decision, while Iona Prep notched a five-point tech-fall.
 
With three matches remaining, Brunswick’s Clayton Ostrover earned a pin-win at 220, giving the Bruins a 33-27 advantage with the heavyweights and a match a 106 to decide the winner.
 
Iona Prep collected a three-point win at the penultimate match at the heavyweight spot, trimming the Brunswick lead to 33-30. Enzo Vera clinched the Brunswick win in the finale, with a pin-fall victory just 44 seconds into the match.
