Hockey Picks Up First Win

Brunswick topped New Hampton by a 5-2 on Saturday at the Phillips Exeter Invitational on Saturday. The win is the first of the season for the Bruins (1-2-0). Brunswick returns to action against the host school on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The Bruins took a quick 2-0 lead, as James Shannon netted a short-handed tally five minutes into the contest and Jakub Teply followed with a lamp-lighter 96 seconds later.

However, the Huskies countered with a two-goal burst to close out the first 20-minute period, as the teams headed to the first break knotted at 2-2.

Brunswick took the lead for good in the second period, as Ben Presley potted the puck in the late stages of the frame to give the Bruins a 3-2 advantage.

The Bruins added two insurance goals in the third period, as the Brunswick defense kept New Hampton at bay. Jude Brower scored an even-strength goal 2:17 into the frame for the Bruins, while Connor Welsh added a power-play goal with 8:58 left in the contest.
