Basketball Wins Season-Opener

Trailing 55-54 at Hackley with 1:04 left in the game, Brunswick closed out the contest with a 10-5 run to beat the Hornets, 64-60. The Bruins (1-0) stay on the road for their seven games, as Brunswick returns to action at Taft on Saturday, December 7.
 
Hackley held a slim 25-23 lead at the break, as Brunswick’s Colin Mulshine scored 10 of his 16 points in the opening half.
 
In the closely played second half, the Hornets held a 55-54 lead with just over a minute to play in the game before the decisive 10-5 run by the Bruins.
 
Tristan Joseph started the run with a fast-break lay-up, giving Brunswick the lead at 56-55. Following a turnover by the Hornets, Kevonne Wilder drove the baseline for a lay-up and was fouled with 28 seconds left to play. Wilder sank the free throw to give the Bruins a two-possession lead, 59-55.
 
Hackley missed a shot at the other end and fouled Dan Arnold with 13.5 seconds left in the game. Arnold sank both free throws for the Bruins, boosting the visitors’ lead (63-55).
 
Following a three-pointer by the Hornets with 7.7 seconds left in the game, the hosts fouled on the in-bounds pass by Brunswick, as Hackley trailed the Bruins, 63-58. Joseph made one of two free throws, as the Hornets sank a basket as time expired for the 64-60 final.
 
Joseph led the Bruins with a team-high 17 points, as Khari Wilson added nine points and Jack Michalik chipped in eight.
