Late Goal Halts Hockey

Loomis Chaffee broke a 2-2 tie with a late third period goal, as the host Pelicans held on for a one-goal victory over Brunswick on Thursday, 3-2.
 
After a scoreless first period, Loomis Chaffee netted a pair of goals to start the second frame. Following an opening-minute goal, a Pelican power-play tally boosted the lead to 2-0 with 12:31 remaining.
 
Later in the second period, the Bruins (0-2-0) responded with two goals to knot the contest at 2-2 with 4:07 left. Jakub Teply netted the first Brunswick goal, as Teply’s shot hit the crossbar and dropped into the net near the midpoint of the second period. Teammate Gary Claps added the game-tying goal less than five minutes later for the Bruins.
 
In the third period, the Pelicans netted the eventual game-winner with 3:41 remaining in regulation, as the hosts scored in a 4-on-4 situation.
 
Brunswick pulled its goalie for an extra skater in the final minutes, but the Bruins could not net the equalizer, as Loomis Chaffee held on for the 3-2 win.
