Thanksgiving Food Drive Breaks Record

Upper School students, faculty and advisors outdid themselves for this year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive, donating all the holiday fixings to complete 367 baskets — along with enough leftovers to fill a trunk.

“Our previous record was 280 baskets,” said Director of Community Service Juan Montanez. “I am just so touched by our community, and how we strive to meet the needs of those families who rely on us to come through. Our boys, time and time again, meet and exceed the expectation.”

“The need has gotten greater, and so has our response,” he said.

Montanez spent the day on Friday delivering the baskets to organizations, shelters, and schools in Fairfield and Westchester counties; 30 went to the Ossining, N.Y., school system, 100 to Horizons at Brunswick families, 40 to Family Centers, 40 to the Thomas Edison School, 50 to Inspirica, 35 to Pacific House, 40 to the Waterside School, while 30 or so went to private families.

Each basket contained a $20 - $25 Stop & Shop gift card, two cans green beans, two cans of corn, one can cranberry sauce, one jar of gravy, one box mashed potatoes, one box of stuffing and one box of mac & cheese.

Leftover donations — 13 crates of food in all — were contributed to Neighbor-to-Neighbor.

“We’re humbled and proud to be able to be positive advocates and to help members of our surrounding community,” Montanez said.
