Soccer's Five-Game Winning Streak Halted

Brunswick’s five game winning streak came to an end on a rain-soaked field at Salisbury, as the Knights held on for a 2-1 win on Wednesday. The Bruins (6-4-1) return to action with a road game against unbeaten South Kent (11-0) on Saturday, October 19.

In the first half, the hosts finished off a free kick with an in-close tally at the 28th minute, as Salisbury took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Brunswick appeared to tie the game with a goal on a header, but the goal was negated as the Bruins were ruled offsides.

In the 73rd minute of action, the Knights (3-7-1) added a key insurance marker to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bruins trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with 3:19 left in regulation, as Henry Foster converted a penalty kick following a Salisbury penalty on Stevie Lopez inside the box.

Brunswick pressured the Knights’ goal in the final minutes of regulation, however the visitors could not net the equalizer in the heavy rain.

Goalies Andrew Breckenridge (three saves, one goal allowed) and Eric Meindl (four saves, one goal allowed) split time in net for the Bruins.
