Computer Science Students Excel at All-Star Competition

’Wick coders traveled to Wayne, N.J., to compete in American Computer Science League’s (ACSL) All-Star contest — a global coding contest sponsored by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) — on Saturday, May 25

Brunswick’s Intermediate-5 team was represented by Christian Hartch '19, Nicholas Wolanske '20, Alexander Morgan '20, Kevin Tu '20, and Ali Hindy '21, while the Senior-3 team fielded Cole Pierce '19, Tallon Hodge '19, and Jamison Meindl '20.

After a full day of solving coding problems, the Intermediate-5 team placed 7th at the All-Star contest, while the Senior-3 team walked away with 3rd prize.

Apart from these accolades, Jackson Singsen '25, Glen Cahilly '23, and Ajay Bagaria '24 of the Middle School team also won 1st rank in Connecticut in the Classroom and Elementary divisions.

“This is a truly phenomenal showing in a grueling world-wide contest with over 200 teams participating from Asia, Europe, USA, and Canada,” said Sunil Gupta, chairman of the computer science department.

“Success in these competitions doesn’t come without putting in extra time and effort. Each student worked as part of a team, helping to buck the stereotype that computer science is an individual activity.”
