Hamden Hall Pulls Away from Bruins
Brunswick fell to FAA foe Hamden Hall by an 83-74 margin on Thursday in Dann Gym. The Bruins (2-11, 1-7) were within two possessions of the Hornets (13-2, 6-1) as late as 3:45 in the game, but could not catch the visitors down the stretch.
In the first half the Bruins trailed 15-6 in the early going. The hosts responded with a 9-3 run, capped by a Chisom Okpara jumper at 9:52, to cut the deficit to 18-15.
Later in the half, with Brunswick trailing 23-21, the Hornets put together a 12-4 surge to build a double-digit lead at 35-25 with 3:38 remaining in the frame.
The Bruins immediately answered with back-to-back three-pointers by Khari Wilson, trimming the Hamden Hall lead at 35-31. The two teams played relatively even in the remaining minutes, as the Hornets took a 41-36 lead at the break.
Brunswick opened the second half with a 9-5 spurt capped by a Tristan Joseph dunk at 13:47, trimming the Hornets’ lead to 47-45.
Hamden Hall responded with a key 17-9 run over the next five minutes, as the visitors built a 64-54 lead with just over eight minutes left in the game.
The Bruins countered with a quick 7-2 run, keyed by five points from Okpara, as Brunswick trailed by two possessions, 66-61, with 7:17 remaining.
After a quick 5-0 run by Hamden Hall, the Bruins matched the scoring run with a 5-1 spurt of their own, as the deficit remained at five points, 72-67, with 3:45 left to play.
That is as close as Brunswick would get, as the Hornets outscored the Bruins 11-3 over the next 2:46 for an 83-70 lead. The Bruins scored the final four points of the game for the 83-74 final.
Okpara led the Bruins with 25 points, as Wilson followed with 20, including four three-pointers. Joseph followed with 14 points, as Henry Caponiti chipped in nine points. The 74 points was a season-high for Brunswick.
Brunswick returns to action at home against Greens Farms on Wednesday, January 30.
