Basketball Falls to Storm King

Brunswick dropped a 49-41 road game at Storm King on Friday. Following the non-league setback, the Bruins (2-10) return to FAA action with a home game against Hamden Hall on Thursday, January 24.

Late in the first half, Brunswick jumped ahead by a 27-20 margin, following a three-pointer by Khari Wilson with 1:31 on the clock, as the Bruins took a 29-26 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, Storm King scored a pair of quick lay-ups to take a 30-29 lead. In the second half, the hosts outscored Brunswick 23-12.

Chisom Okpara briefly regained the lead for the Bruins at 31-30, sinking a pair of free throws following a Brunswick time-out with 14:47 left to play.

A 6-0 counter by Storm King set the score at 36-31, before Kevonne Wilder netted a three for the Bruins to make it a one-score game at 36-34 at the 11:40 mark. That was as close as Brunswick would get as the Cougars countered with an 8-0 run over the next 3:17, building a 44-34 lead with 8:23 left in the game.

With 38 seconds remaining in the game, the Bruins cut the deficit to 47-41 on a Ryan Mulshine three-pointer from the corner. Brunswick quickly fouled Storm King, sending the hosts to the line for a one-and-one opportunity. Despite missing the first free throw, the Cougars grabbed the rebound and were fouled by the Bruins, sending the hosts to the line again with 33.5 left to play.

The hosts went 2-2 from the charity stripe for a 49-41 lead, as Brunswick missed a long three-pointer and the Cougars collected the rebound.

Okpara led the Bruins with 15 points, as Mulshine chipped in eight points, including two buckets from behind the arc.
