Brunswick picked up a key road win at Millbrook on Wednesday, topping the Mustangs 4-2. Charles Shaffer picked up his second hat trick of the season for the Bruins, as the captain bookended the scoring in the game. Brunswick (6-6-4, 5-5-4) returns to action at home against Hoosac on Saturday, January 12.
Shaffer opened the scoring just under four minutes into the first frame, finishing off a Ryan St. Louis feed for the 1-0 lead. The hosts countered with a game-tying tally just past the midway point of the first period.
In the second period, St. Louis set-up another Shaffer goal with 7:17 remaining. The duo swapped roles nearly three minutes later as Shaffer fed St. Louis (6 G, 13 A) for a goal to give the Bruins a 3-1 advantage.
Millbrook made it a one-goal game in the opening minute of the third period.
Trailing 3-2 late in the game, the Mustangs pulled their goalie for the extra skater. In the final seconds, Shaffer potted the puck in the open net for the 4-2 final.
Shaffer currently leads the team in scoring (26), goals (12) and assists (14).
