Late Run Halts Basketball at RCDS

In a 49-49 game with over six minutes to play, RCDS outscored Brunswick by a 23-17 margin, as the Wildcats topped the Bruins 72-66 on Wednesday in Rye. Following the FAA loss, the Bruins are 2-8 overall and 1-5 in conference action.
 
Brunswick jumped out to an early double-digit lead to start the game, but RCDS closed the gap, as the Bruins took a 33-30 lead into halftime.
 
In the second half, Brunswick’s Kevonne Wilder three-pointer tied the game at 41-all with 10:55 remaining. Tristan Joseph knocked in the next five points for the visitors, as the Bruins built a 45-41 lead with 9:55 left in the game.
 
With 6:45 to play, the Wildcats sank a three to take a 49-47 lead, as the Bruins quickly tied the contest at 49-49 on a bucket from the paint.
 
Rye CDS started its decisive run following the game-tying bucket with a three-ball.
 
The Bruins were down by just one possession before another Wildcat three-pointer at 4:05 gave the hosts a 57-53 lead. The teams then exchanged baskets, as Rye CDS followed with another three-pointer at 2:36, as the hosts held a 62-55 advantage. Following a pair of made free throws by the Wildcats, the Bruins trailed by a 64-55 margin with 2:11 left in the contest.
 
Joseph knocked down a shot from downtown at 1:52, as the Wildcats followed with a three-pointer clanked in after a friendly bounce off the rim to set the score at 67-58 with 1:28 left on the clock.
 
A Brunswick lay-up closed the gap to 67-60, but the Bruins could get no closer despite three-point baskets from Colin Mulshine and Joseph down the stretch, falling to the Wildcats, 72-66.
 
Four Bruins reached double-digits, as Joseph led Brunswick with 16 points. Chisom Okpara netted 15 points, while Khari Wilson dropped a baker’s dozen and Mulshine chipped in 10 points.
 
The Bruins return home with a “White-Out” game against St. Luke’s on Friday, January 11.
