Hockey Comeback Falls Short Against Top-Ranked Salisbury

Brunswick battled back from an early 3-0 hole at top-ranked Salisbury, but fell to the Crimson Knights by a 5-4 margin on the road on Friday. The Bruins return to action at home against Hotchkiss on Monday, January 7.

Sitting in a 3-0 hole in the first period, Brunswick got on the board with a power-play tally by Jude Brower with 1:20 left in the frame. Brower’s goal was his first as a Bruin.

Special teams paid off again for the Bruins in the second period, as Henry Foster scored a short-handed goal at 11:41 to make it a one-goal deficit at 3-2. However, Salisbury countered with a tally three minutes later, building a two-goal buffer heading into the third period.

Brower made it a one-goal game with his second tally at 7:35 into the final frame.

In a 4-3 contest, the hosts responded with a key goal to bump the lead back to a two-goal buffer at 5-3 with 2:57 left in regulation.

The Bruins pulled their goalie for an extra skater and it paid off, as Charles Shaffer notched his seventh goal of the season with under a minute to play. While the Bruins made it a 5-4 contest against the perennial power, the visitors could not net the equalizer in the final seconds.
