Brunswick’s Luca Errico took first-place in the 138-pound weight class at the 39th annual Michael O'Connell Memorial Tournament at Pearl River High School (N.Y.) on Friday. Errico was named Most Outstanding Wrestler, as the eight-member Bruin squad finished sixth as a team.
Luca Errico was voted by the coaches as the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament amongst the lower weight classes (99 lb. to 145 lb.), as co-captains Harry Fett (160 lb.) and Tim Saunders (195 lb.) both made it to the finals. Fett, a finalist last year, and Saunders, an individual champion at 182-pounds a year ago, both lost to New York public school state tourney finalists.
Nick Bell (145 lb.) wrestled back impressively to take third-place, while Nadji Ngbokoli, Dylan Reynolds, Kyle Karas, and Kaden Saad represented Brunswick at the annual event.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, January 5 at Salisbury, as Brunswick faces Trinity-Pawling and Salisbury.
