Brunswick’s Paul Davey scored the first three goals of the game on Friday against Belmont Hill, as the Bruins picked up a 4-1 win in the opening round of the Nichols-Belmont Hill Holiday Tournament in Buffalo.
Davey (4 goals) picked up the natural hat trick with power-play tallies in the first and second periods, while the forward notched the third goal with 5:26 left in the second period. Brunswick’s leading scorer, Charles Shaffer (5 G, 13 A), set-up two of Davey’s lamp-lighters.
Just over two minutes later, Belmont Hill closed the gap with a second-period tally, making it a 3-1 contest heading into the third period.
Belmont Hill pulled its goalie with several minutes left in the third period, allowing Shaffer to deposit an empty-net goal for a 4-1 lead with 4:11 left to play.
Belmont Hill did score a late goal with 1:25 remaining, setting the final score at 4-2.
The Bruins battle Kimball Union (7-4-0) on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Wildcats topped the Bruins by a 7-3 margin back on December 2.
