Battling back from an 11-point second half deficit against King, Brunswick regained the lead, but fell to the visiting Vikings on Tuesday in Dann Gym, 68-63. The conference setback drops the Bruins to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in FAA action.
Trailing 31-26 at the half, the Viking lead grew to 41-30 with 12:41 left, as the Bruins started their comeback.
Over the next 8:20 of action, the Bruins went on a 23-12 run, tying the game on a Colin Mulshine breakaway lay-up with 4:21 left to play. Brunswick took the lead at 55-53 on its next possession, following a lay-up by Henry Caponiti off a nice feed by Khari Wilson.
The teams exchanged the lead three times over the next 2:15, as King went up 62-59 after a pair of made free throws with 1:35 left to play.
Wilson answered with a rare four-point play, converting a free throw after getting fouled on a made three-pointer with 1:20 on the clock. The four-point play gave the hosts a 63-62 advantage.
King countered with a lay-up with 1:05 left, retaking the lead at 64-63.
After forcing a Brunswick turnover with under a minute to play, the Vikings worked the shot clock down to seven seconds and set-up a scoring play after a time-out with 25.3 left in the game. On the play, King sank a floating jumper from just outside the paint with 22.7 left to play, giving the visitors a 66-63 lead.
Brunswick missed a game-tying three-pointer, as the Bruins fouled a King player that collected the rebound with 6.9 seconds. The Vikings connected on both free throws for the 68-63 final.
Wilson led the Bruins with 20 points, as Tristan Joseph added 16 points, Mulshine netted 11 and Chisom Okpara chipped in 10.
The Bruins return to FAA action with a home game against Rye CDS on Thursday, December 20.
