Brunswick skated to a 4-4 tie against Williston Northampton in the consolation round on Sunday at the St. Sebastian Holiday Tournament. The Bruins went 1-1-1 at the three-day event, as Charles Shaffer posted a natural hat trick against the Wildcats on Sunday.
Shaffer collected four points on the day, including an assist on the Bruins opening goal, to surpass the 100-point scoring plateau at Brunswick (30 goals, 71 assists).
Trailing 1-0 early in the first half, Brunswick’s Matthew McGroarty (3rd goal) netted a power-play tally 13:14 left to play in the opening 25-minute half to tie the game.
Williston countered with a go-ahead goal with nearly 12 minutes left to play in the frame.
Shaffer answered with the first of his three-straight goals, netting the equalizer on a power play with 8:54 left in the first. That would cap the first half scoring, as the two teams headed to the break knotted at 2-2.
Shaffer opened the second half with a goal just 51 seconds into the frame. The Brunswick team captain followed with final goal of the natural hat trick, just over four minutes later, giving the Bruins a 4-2 lead with 19:51 left in regulation.
Williston cut the deficit to 4-3 on a tally midway through the second half and later scored the game-tying goal with 11 minutes left in the contest.
Neither team scored in the five-minute overtime session.
Williston 2 2 0 = 4 (3-5-1)
Bruins 2 2 0 = 4 (2-3-3)
