Brunswick battled back from a 6-2 deficit in the third period against New Hampton and rallied to tie the Huskies, 6-6, at the Exeter Invitational on Saturday. Cooper Moore led the improbable comeback for the Bruins, netting three of his career-best five goals in the final frame.
Moore started the scoring with a tally in the first period, but New Hampton countered with three-straight goals to close out the opening stanza with a 3-1 lead.
Moore netted his second goal on a power-play to open the second period, slicing the Huskies advantage to 3-2, with 2:41 burned off the clock. New Hampton followed with a similar three-goal scoring burst to take a commanding 6-2 advantage into the final frame.
Brunswick’s remarkable third period, four-goal rally started with a Ryan St. Louis lamp-lighter just 43 seconds into the period.
After nine minutes of scoreless play, Moore netted the first of three-straight tallies on another power-play, closing the gap at 6-4. Following Moore’s fouth goal a couple minutes later, the defenseman notched his career-best fifth tally 22 seconds later, tying the game at 6-6 with nearly five minutes left in regulation.
Despite a combined 12 goals in regulation, neither team netted a game-winner in the five-minute overtime session.
Brunswick returns to action on Sunday, facing Kimball Union at Exeter at 2:00 p.m.
