Leyton Borcherding Finishes 10th at Sailing Nationals
Brunswick’s Leyton Borcherding placed 10th at the 2018 ISSA Cressy National Championship, hosted by the Macatawa Bay Junior Association, near Holland, Michigan. The 14 races, held on October 27-28, were split between Lake Michigan and nearby Lake Macatawa.
Borcherding finished with 149 total points, posting six top-ten finishes, while the champion from the Ranney School (N.J.) sailed away from the other 17 boats from across the country with 61 points.
Day two brought the races from Lake Michigan to Lake Macatawa. Borcherding, along with the rest of the fleet, navigated through heavy rain and even a blast of hail during the first four races. Despite the rough conditions, Borcherding notched five of his six top-10 finishes on the second day.
