Soccer Picks Up First Win

Trailing 1-0 to visiting Gunnery, Brunswick netted the next four goals en route to a decisive 4-1 win on Saturday. The victory was the first on the season for the Bruins (1-3-2).

Following an opening goal by Gunnery in the 10th minute, Brunswick responded with two goals to close out the first half for a 2-1 lead.

Harry Barringer tied the game in the 23rd minute following a corner kick from Ryan Chinai. Barringer one-timed the ball to the back post for the goal.

Five minutes later, Ben Powers found AJ Delgado on a long ball. Delgado then diced past two Gunnery defenders and beat the goalie, bottom left, to make it a 2-1 lead for the Bruins.

In the 54th minute, Chinai connected with Barringer for a second time to expand the lead to 3-1. With a through ball from Chinai around the 18, Barringer worked a one-on-one with the Gunnery keeper and chipped a shot in for his second goal of the game.

Brunswick made it a 4-1 game seven minutes later. A nifty corner kick from Chinai curved in towards the goal, hit the far post, and ended up in the back of the net, giving the Bruins a three-goal lead.

Brunswick outshot Gunnery (17-5) and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, as Eric Meindl made saves in net for the Bruins.

Brunswick returns to action on Wednesday, October 3, at Cheshire Academy.
