Brunswick dropped a 1-0 game on the road against Loomis Chaffee, the 2017 New England Champions, on Wednesday. The Bruins (0-2-1) return to action at home on Saturday, September 22, against Deerfield.
The lone goal of the contest came in the sixth minute of action, as a through-ball from a Loomis midfielder was handled by a Pelican striker and laid off to a Loomis teammate near the penalty stripe for the tally. The scoring shot snuck under Brunswick goalie Harry Barringer.
While the Bruins were outshot 13-5 and trailed in corners 6-2 on the day, Brunswick did have a great opportunity to notch the tying goal late in the half. At the 42nd minute, Freddy Gazal played a cross into the Loomis 6-yard box that was just out of the reach of a streaking Chisom Okpara.
Brunswick’s Michael Huber had three shots on goal, with the most exciting chance coming in the 87th minute. Ahead of the play, Gazal drew a penalty just outside the 18-yard box. Huber took the kick and drilled a low-strike past the wall, as the Loomis keeper made a fine save to secure the 1-0 advantage.
Barringer made eight saves and took down three crosses, as Ben Powers battled numerous clearances and made several key tackles on potential scoring chances from the Pelicans.
