Brunswick lost its opening contest of the season on Wednesday, dropping a 1-0 decision at Choate. The Bruins (0-1) return to action on Saturday, September 15, with a home match against Taft at 3:00 p.m.
The lone goal of the match came in the 69th minute, as an errant goal-kick by the Bruins resulted in a Choate tally. The Wild Boars capitalized on the play, as Choate intercepted the kick and played it forward to a streaking attacker that snuck the ball past Brunswick’s goalie Harry Barringer.
The Bruins did have a pair of quality scoring chances in the first half. At the 17th minute, Christian Barnard played a cross to teammate Will Maynard from the right corner of the box, but Maynard’s header was directed over the bar by the Choate keeper. In the 36th minute, Brunswick’s Ben Israel collected a ball 25 yards out, but just missed the net with a shot that sailed just wide of the net by a foot.
Barringer made six saves in the losing effort for the Bruins, as defenders Powers, Jack Withstandley, and John Dunn made noteworthy performances in the season-opener.
